Subhumans and DOA were the two pillars of the Vancouver, BC, Canada punk scene who caught Jello Biafra's attention and were spotlighted in the landmark Alternative Tentacles compilation Let Them Eat Jellybeans. The Subhumans, first active between and , were the more elusive of the two, with many out-of-print releases fetching .

  2. They released the CD Pissed Off With Good Reason the following year. In , the Subhumans reunited with the following lineup: Gerry Hannah on bass, Jon Card (ex-Personality Crisis, SNFU and D.O.A.) on drums, Wimpy Roy on vocals and Mike Graham on guitar. They signed to Alternative Tentacles and G7 Welcoming Committee Records.

  3. The following year the band released a “best of” CD, Pissed Off With Good Reason, on the Essential Noise/Virgin label. The disc included the band’s singles, their EP, and other popular songs, including many from their two previous albums. The Subhumans recorded a full-length CD of new material in early , entitled New Dark Age.
